Step 2: Configure your wireless settings
Connect your Xbox 360 console to your wireless network by following these steps:
On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
Select Network Settings.
Select Configure Network.
On the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Mode.

Note If wireless mode is not available and you are using the black Wireless N Networking Adapter, try using the software installation disc included with the adapter. For more information about how to do this, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Select Scan for Networks.
Select your wireless network name.

If your network is not listed, you can try to improve your wireless signal (use the suggestions in “Step 3: Improve your wireless signal” below) or you can try the following:
Select Specify Unlisted Network and enter your wireless network name.
Select your wireless security.

Enter your wireless network password, and then select Done.

Note Make sure that you have entered the correct password. An incorrect password might allow your console to connect to your wireless network, but you might receive an IP address error when you test your Xbox LIVE connection.
Press B on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
If you successfully connect to Xbox LIVE, you’ll see this screen:

Step 3: Improve your wireless signal
Here are some ideas for improving the strength of your wireless network signal:
Move your router or gateway off the floor and away from walls and metal objects (such as metal file cabinets).

Minimize obstructions along the straight line path between your console and your wireless router or gateway.

Shorten the distance between your console and your wireless router or gateway.

Change the position of the antenna on your Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter.

Turn off wireless devices such as 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) cordless telephones. If you have a dual mode router or gateway, try switching to 802.11a or "A," because it's less affected by interference. To learn how to switch wireless modes, refer to the documentation that came with your network hardware.

Try changing your wireless channel. Wireless routers and gateways can broadcast on different channels and one channel might be clearer than another. To learn how to change wireless channels, refer to the documentation that came with your network hardware.

Add a wireless repeater to extend your wireless network range. You can boost your signal strength by placing a wireless repeater halfway between your network hardware and your Xbox 360 console.
After improving your wireless signal, test your Xbox LIVE connection (on the console, go to My Xbox, select System Settings, select Network Settings, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection).

If you receive the same error, please try the next step.

Step 4: Wireless standard 802.11n or WPA2 authentication
About wireless standard 802.11n
If you are using an 802.11n or N type router or gateway and the Xbox Wireless G Networking Adapter (the gray adapter with a single antenna), make sure that your network hardware is broadcasting in "mixed mode." To learn how to configure your hardware to broadcast in mixed mode, refer to your hardware documentation or the manufacturer’s Web site.
About WPA2 authentication
Before you can use WPA2 authentication, you must have the latest Dashboard update on your Xbox 360 console. You can tell that you need a Dashboard updated if:
The WPA 2 option is dimmed on the Specify Unlisted Network screen.
Your wireless network is not listed after you select Scan for Networks (in step 2).
To download the latest Dashboard update, connect your Xbox 360 console to your router or gateway by using a network cable. Sign in to Xbox LIVE and download the update. After you have downloaded the update, disconnect the network cable from your console, and try to configure your wireless settings again (repeat "Step 2: Configure your wireless settings" above).
